AHU

An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is a machine used in HVAC systems to circulate, filter, cool, or heat air inside buildings.

An AHU is like the “lungs” of a building. It:

  • Pulls air from the building
  • Cleans it using filters
  • Cools or heats the air
  • Blows the conditioned air back through the ducts

This keeps rooms comfortable and fresh.

Types of AHUs

Common types include:

  • Floor mounted AHU
  • Ceiling suspended
  • Packaged AHU
  • Clean room AHU

Where AHUs are used

AHUs are used in large buildings, such as:

  • Shopping malls
  • Airports
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Factories
  • Office buildings

Basically anywhere central air conditioning is required.

How Airflow Works

  1. Return air comes from the room
  2. Fresh air is mixed with it
  3. Air passes through filters
  4. Air is cooled or heated
  5. Fan sends the air through ducts to rooms
  6. Air is evenly distributed through diffusers
  7. Used air returns back to the system for circulation.
